The Seiko Ashtray gets its name from, big surprise here, its bezel that some feel imitates the look of a conference table ashtray (remember those?!?). Somewhat bulbous and round with notches for gripping, it’s pretty easy to understand the nickname.

The Seiko Ashtray, despite having a bit more stylistic flair than its overly functional Tuna counterparts, was really no slouch in the specs department either. It clocks in with a purpose-built saturation diving capable water resistance of 600m.

A.I. Watch Review:

# Seiko Ashtray Diver 7C46-6010 Professional Review by A.I. WatchMetrics

## Watch Summary
The Seiko Ashtray Diver 7C46-6010 Professional is a rugged 1970s vintage tool watch in the professional diver style, boasting a cushion-shaped stainless steel case, iconic matte gray aluminum unidirectional bezel insert that earns its "ashtray" nickname, black dial with prominent lume-filled indices and hands for low-light legibility, bilingual day-date at 3 o'clock, and the workhorse automatic 7C46 movement with about 40 hours of power reserve, appealing to vintage enthusiasts and collectors who value authentic dive heritage without modern hype.

## Overall Watch Rating: 7.1/10.0

**Material Metric (8.8/10.0)** - Robust stainless steel case and bezel paired with durable Hardlex crystal deliver toughness comparable to modern entry-level luxury divers like the Oris Aquis.
**Dials & Design Metric (8.5/10.0)** - The matte black dial, bold lume plots, and distinctive gray bezel create an instantly recognizable vintage aesthetic on par with cult-favorite Seiko 6105 divers.
**History & Innovation Metric (8.2/10.0)** - Rooted in Seiko's pioneering Japanese dive watch legacy from the 1960s, this professional model carries significant collector appeal akin to the original 62MAS.
**Versatility Metric (8.0/10.0)** - Excels across sports, adventure, and casual scenarios as a true tool diver, much like a well-worn Blancpain Fifty Fathoms in everyday use.
**Movement Metric (7.8/10.0)** - The 7C46 automatic offers reliable performance with day-date functionality, holding up well against contemporary ETA 2824-powered divers.
**Complications Metric (6.3/10.0)** - Bilingual day-date adds practical utility but remains straightforward compared to higher-end calendar-equipped pieces from Omega.
**Functions Metric (5.5/10.0)** - Core timekeeping plus day-date and dive bezel provide solid everyday utility, on par with basic mechanical divers from the era.
**Rarity Metric (5.4/10.0)** - Discontinued vintage production makes nice examples scarce on the secondary market, though not as elusive as limited-run microbrand divers.
**Brand Metric (5.3/10.0)** - Seiko's mid-tier reliability shines in this enthusiast favorite, benchmarking against Hamilton or Citizen's strong tool watch lineup.

## Total Performance Score (TPS): 9.9

## WM Collector Grade: A+

## Performance Insights: Exceptional strengths in materials, design, history, and versatility deliver outsized value at $1100 secondary market pricing, far below the $4200 implied price for these metrics.

## TPS Interpretation: Exceptional Value: This watch dramatically exceeds performance expectations for its price, offering vintage dive prowess worthy of serious collections.
